Social Media Coordinator

Responsibilities

Proposal Development and Writing 90%

<ul>
	<li>Lead the process for developing and writing specific technical and cost proposals (the proposal lead oversee development of cost proposals which are developed by the cost proposal team) across AWF’s entire donor base (public, institutional, philanthropic, foundation, private sector and private donors).</li>
	<li>Fully understand and guide other teams and partners on all donor requirements for each opportunity, call for proposals, and ensure compliance with funder/donor guidelines.</li>
	<li>Proactively ensure all new proposals and donor requests are deliberately designed to deliver on AWF’s Strategic Vision, Theory of Change, Strategies, Landscape Approach, Rights-based standards, annual and multi-year budget requirements, and cost match/co-funding obligations.</li>
	<li>Collaborate with donor account managers, program teams (country, landscape, thematic), and all relevant support units (finance, M&amp;E, etc.) to align proposals to donor priorities, organizational strategy, African government development agendas, and global development and conservation frameworks.</li>

	<li>Support development and design of AWF’s internal annual and multi-year Priority Unfunded Needs (PUNs) proposals and support DAMs to re-purpose these for specific donor pitches and funding opportunities.</li>
	<li>Contribute to internal learning by capturing lessons learned and supporting post-proposal reviews.</li>
	<li>Support DAMs in identifying and surfacing funding opportunities from institutional (public, foundation, private sector) donors including analysing and reviewing funding opportunities and calls for proposals and their fit for AWF’s projects, programs, and strategies.</li>
	<li>Support DAMs in developing e.g. opportunity summaries, completing the GO/NO GO process for all relevant opportunities, and internal approval documents.</li>

Requirements and skills

	<li>Reputable master’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in relevant field: including conservation, natural resource management, project design, rural/international development, economics, political science or similar.</li>
	<li>Minimum of 3 years’ experience to develop and design technical and cost proposals with high-quality logical framework and results chains and a successful track record of securing significant funding from donors, preferably in the field of conservation or environmental management in Africa.</li>

Youth Program Officer

Key Responsibilities

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning:

Under the direction of the Chief of Staff, and in close collaboration with the executive team, lead the operationalization of an updated monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) approach that sets clear annual, medium- and long-term institutional targets and drives an organization wide focus on metrics, adaptive management and accountability. As a core team leader, the SDMI will:

	<li>Lead a cross functional MEL team that will collaborate to define metrics, analyze performance, and lead institutional conversations about impact and adaptive management.</li>
	<li>Integrate metrics into the performance management system and project level monitoring institution wide and maintain regular and frequent reporting to AWF leadership and external stakeholders.</li>
	<li>Ensure M&amp;E process meets international best-practices standards, fulfills donor requirements, and adequately monitors and evaluates the organization in the context of AWF’s strategic vision.</li>
	<li>Drive AWF learning agenda to foster development and use of best practices and improve outcomes. Help create a culture of sharing this knowledge among staff and grantees.</li>

Strategic Planning:

Working closely with the Chief of Staff, the SDMI will facilitate strategic planning meetings of the executive and senior leadership teams, project manage and track implementation as well as work across all parts of the organization to develop alignment around strategy and delivery on institutional metrics. Senior Director, Mission Impact, and Integration

Budget and Grants Officer

The Operations and Systems Assistant, People and Culture will assist with the administration of the day-to-day operations and HR Systems support of the People and Culture department functions and duties. This includes filing, contract management, recruitment, leave administration, support the onboarding process and manage the HR systems. This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya but supports functions across all of AWF’s Africa based offices. This position will report to the Senior Manager, People and Culture.

The position will be for 6 months.

Responsibilities:

Operations and Systems Assistant, People and Culture

Position Summary

The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) is an Africa-based conservation organization protecting wildlife and their habitats as essential to a modern and prosperous Africa. The Foundation Relations Manager will report to the Vice President, Foundation Relations and work in matrixed management with the Director, Foundation Relations in building and maintaining relationships with foundation funders. Primary Duties &amp; Responsibilities

<ul>
	<li>Working closely with VP and Director, manage research and qualification of foundation donors with a goal of growing the Foundation donor pipeline and overall support from foundations, from $5M - $10M/ann by 2030. Develop a thorough knowledge of AWF’s Foundations portfolio, both current donors and prospects.</li>
	<li>Manage a small portfolio of 10-15 donors with an estimated annual value of $500K, with the potential to grow the portfolio as new opportunities are identified.</li>
	<li>Partner with Vice President, Director, and other organization leadership in cultivating and stewarding donors. Prepare initial drafts of donor meeting briefs and other strategic materials, and assist in meeting preparation and scheduling as needed.</li>
	<li>Lead on donor stewardship processes with accountability for meeting reporting deadlines across the entire Foundations portfolio. Monitor deadlines and manage production schedules, ensuring quality control and compliance with donor and AWF requirements and quality standards. Contribute to writing and editing donor reports across the Foundations portfolio as needed.</li>
	<li>Manage grant administration and project kickoff in line with AWF’s Account Management Framework.</li>
	<li>Record and manage key action items from internal and external meetings, and coordinate follow-up with relevant staff.</li>
	<li>Play a lead role in writing solicitation materials and developing/adapting updates and stewardship materials. Provide thorough and responsive information requested by foundations as needed.</li>
	<li>Manage accurate records and responsibly document all work with prospects and funders into the constituent relationship management database in a timely manner in accordance with the policies and procedures of the External Affairs department.</li>
	<li>Support annual budgeting process and assist in providing regular updates on annual targets and cash flow projections.</li>
	<li>Establish and maintain strong and effective relationships with AWF’s major internal constituencies, which includes the Executive Leadership team, Country Directors, field teams, and members of key administrative units such as finance and communications.</li>
	<li>Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading and attending professional development courses and trainings.</li>
	<li>Other duties as assigned. Contribute to AWF’s overall success by assuming responsibility for special projects, and performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned in a timely, thorough, and professional manner.</li>

Requirements and skills

<ul>
	<li>Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in funder engagement, fundraising, and/or grant writing; a minimum of two years’ experience working with private foundations.</li>
	<li>Superb verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate instructions and provide or solicit feedback. Collegial, collaborative team player with exceptional interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships.</li>
	<li>Demonstrated strength in organizational and project management skills, with an appetite for action and results. 	<li>Intellectual curiosity and ability to work in a multicultural environment with diverse stakeholders. Global experience in conservation, international development, or related field strongly preferred. Strong interest in environmental philanthropy. Connection to our familiarity with Africa is a plus.</li>
</ul>

Foundation Relations Manager

<ul>
<li>The Senior Manager, Policy, Conventions and Networks will lead in building country level policy teams and initiatives.  The role will seek to strengthen and build African Networks and movements for nature.  The role will play a strategic role in introducing the networks to key stakeholders towards enhancing their influence and sustainability of the networks. The role will work closely with the VPGL in supporting and engaging governments and multilateral institutions on the continent. </li>
<li>The incumbent will play a key role in devising strategies for how AWF supports the prioritization of biodiversity and climate change as key to Africa’s economic and cultural future while helping to secure financing necessary to realize that vision.</li>
<li>The position requires a collaborative approach and an ability to influence across cultural differences given the international nature of this work. To succeed, the role will have to work closely with all the global leadership team members, drawing on their expertise in forging national and regional relationships that lead to the desired change.</li>
</ul>
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Advance AWF priorities with government in AWF priority countries
<ul>
<li>Serve as a key strategic partner to AWF Country leads to help them devise strategy to engage in policy, government decision making and development activities to help address drivers of ecosystem degradation and wildlife loss in priority landscapes.</li>
<li>Contribute to the development of tools and processes to guide AWF’s policy approach and engagement.</li>
<li>Support in the cultivation of high-level contacts in national government and public donor agencies across priority countries to develop and finance strategies that protect wildlife and wild lands.</li>
<li>Support in the engagement of a network of African leaders at the country level in multiple sectors who speak out on behalf of wildlife and wildlands and build momentum for conservation as a core pillar of growth in Africa. </li>
<li>Support country directors to have the most up to date and strategic insights from AWF’s work globally in their engagements with government and public donors.</li>
<li>Support countries in leading and engaging in convening processes both at the local and national levels.</li>
<li>Contribute to embedding APAC outcomes with focus on IPLCs, Youth agenda embedded in national processes.</li>
<li>Research priority country and Africa level policy frameworks to identify gaps and linkages with AWF priorities for influencing mainstreaming of biodiversity in national plans.  </li>
<li>Contribute to providing briefing documents and thought pieces to support AWFs agenda setting and thought leadership ends at the country level.</li>
</ul>
Oversee the Secretariat Functions of the Africa Protected Areas Directors Forum (APAD)
<ul>
<li>Provide leadership and support in the development and refinement of engagement strategies of Africa Protected Areas Directors towards driving shifts in policy, planning and financing which leverage conservation as essential to sustainable development.</li>
<li>In collaboration with the APAD Chairs and Co-Chairs, organize and coordinate the implementation of the activities, including field missions, workshops and training as defined by the APAD priorities and workplans.</li>
<li>In collaboration with APAD Members, build and foster effective relationships and networks across a range of national and regional stakeholders, including governments, IPLCs, Young People, business groups, non-government organizations, development partners, and key regional and multilateral stakeholders.</li>
<li>Support the documentation of the process of implementation and lessons learned in the delivery APAD activities for the purpose of dissemination of learnings.</li>
<li>Identify opportunities for regional activities to support needs expressed by APAD members. </li>
</ul>
 Oversee the Secretariat function of the Africa CSOs Biodiversity Alliance (ACBA)
<ul>
<li>Seek to provide guidance and support to ACBAs coordinator in leading ACBAs strategic direction and agenda.</li>
<li>Build linkages between AWFs leadership and influencing initiatives and that of ACBA, always seeking to foster a common voice and position on issues affecting Africa.</li>
<li>Strategically foster linkages between ACBA and key stakeholders at regional or global level, towards policy influencing and resource mobilization for ACBA and its members.</li>
<li>Engage AWF as necessary in ACBAs convenings and initiatives, in ways that empower and allow ACBAs leadership to flourish and thrive.</li>
</ul>
Lead and contribute to Regional and Global Processes
<ul>
<li>Provide oversight of AWFs strategic engagement with global environmental agreements. Lead in developing and or supporting AWF’s strategy and engagement with the United Nation Framework on Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC), Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) its Global Biodiversity Framework, and Convention on International Trade on Endangered Species (CITES) and other associated environmental agreements.</li>
<li>Contribute to and at times lead regional processes and partnerships as linked with biodiversity conservation including with the Regional Economic Communities.</li>
<li>Contribute to the effective delivery of the Africa Protected Areas Congress Outcomes by continuously positioning the Kigali Call to Action as the anchor for Africa’s decision making, planning and implementation of climate and biodiversity initiatives.</li>
<li>Contribute to developing a policy radar and trends analysis function for the organization and its partners, by mapping out key trends on key issues of relevance to AWFs and Partners priorities in priority countries and on the continent.</li>
</ul>
Support Policy Team Fundraising and Program Development
<ul>
<li>Support in the engagement of national governments to gain support for AWF policy agendas and public funding proposals.</li>
<li>Contribute to proposal development in collaboration with Programme, Program Design, Philanthropy and Marketing teams.</li>
<li>Participate in strategic coordination and information-sharing forums, outreach, and presentation to donors.</li>
<li>Cultivate and develop technical collaborations with key partners for fundraising as well as the development and maintenance of donors and influencers and keep them informed of resilience program’s achievements.</li>

Requirements and Skills
<ul>
<li>Advanced degree in social and natural sciences, economics, international development, or related field</li>
<li>Minimum of 8 years’ experience engaging governments in Africa and development partners of Africa consistent with the above roles</li>
<li>Experience managing and building strong teams.</li>
<li>Demonstrated success engaging bilateral and multilateral institutions working in Africa leading to financing of development priorities.</li>
<li>Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking.</li>
<li>Education and demonstrated knowledge of the emerging business environment in Africa and related impacts on natural resources.</li>
<li>Computer literacy to use all MS Office packages.</li>
<li>Ability to work in English and French is highly preferred.</li>

Senior Manager, Policy, Conventions and Network

The Youth Program Assistant will support the implementation of AWF’s Youth Engagement Strategy, reporting to the Senior Manager, Youth Leadership Program. The AWF Youth Engagement Strategy has 3 work areas of work, namely:

<li>Curating and implementing bespoke leadership programs such as the Charles R. Wall Leadership Program</li>
<li>Unlocking opportunities for youth (i.e. Facilitating an opportunity sharing platform &amp; supporting youth-led enterprises, internships)</li>
<li>Strengthen the institutional capacity of youth networks and support their efforts to influence policies on biodiversity and sustainable development</li>
</ul>
The Youth Program Assistant will be responsible for supporting the Pan-African, country level and landscape level implementation of the youth engagement strategy including through partnerships, documentation, procurement and other administrative functions of the program. The candidate will also be responsible for ensuring effective coordination with external and internal actors/stakeholders and quality assurance of AWF’s Youth portfolio. S/he will be responsible for contributing to program design and development; technical support to interventions; measurement, research and documentation; representation and partnership development, proposal and resource development; and training, mentoring and organizational learning for implementing youth program partners. This position will be based in the AWF Headquarters, Nairobi, Kenya 
Responsibilities
Program Development
<ul>
<li>Support youth engagement activities and ensure that they are consistent with the youth engagement frameworks, in line with AWF values and strategic plan and in compliance with AWF procedures and quality standards.</li>
<li>Support selection and awarding of youth fellowships and other opportunities.</li>
<li>Support mapping, assessment, coordination, establishment and capacity development of youth led conservation focused civil society organizations to ensure vibrant youth networks are established and engaged.</li>
<li>Support the collaboration and co-creation of initiatives between with the youth program and other teams to ensure the Youth agenda is embedded in AWF’s programming.</li>
</ul>
Budget Management and Resource Mobilization 
<ul>
<li>Support the identification of partnerships that can support AWF’s Youth Program.</li>
<li>Support the development of proposals to fund the Youth Program in collaboration with Program Design, Field Programs and other relevant teams.</li>
</ul>
Partnership and Network Building
<ul>
<li>Support in building internal and external partnerships/synergies that can support AWF’s Youth Program</li>
<li>Support the coordination with country focal persons to ensure capacities of youth program relevant stakeholders are built and engaged in advancing conservation.</li>
<li>Support the coordination with procurement team to deliver procurement of all youth program related services and products</li>
<li>Support the coordination with strategic communications and marketing team to ensure youth activities are effectively elevated to both internal and external audiences</li>
<li>Lead the AWF Youth Leadership Newsletter, Mighty network platform and other platforms dedicated to network building </li>
</ul>
Measuring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning
<ul>
<li>Research and file youth engagement activities that have been planned for the next 6 months and document the relevance of AWF participation in the events.</li>
<li>Support the coordination with the Knowledge management department to ensure that the tools to develop appropriate institutional metrics and indicators as necessary to track the Youth Program progress are rolled out.</li>
<li>Support the coordination with communications and the Knowledge management department so that the most significant change stories are documented, filed and disseminated successfully.</li>
<li>Support the coordination with Knowledge management to ensure regular reporting on Youth Program Strategy and Activities</li>
</ul>
Administrative Support
<ul>
<li>Provide high quality support to the department, including scheduling of appointments, monitor documents for signature/approval; monitor and follow up on issues and priorities; handle incoming correspondence and internal and external queries; draft and handle routine correspondence.</li>
<li>Coordinate the identified youth participating in AWF events in terms of logistical support: visa processing, transfers and bookings.</li>
<li>Set up and record all meetings with the external partners.</li>
<li>Collect photos and or videos taken during youth events and uploading them on box for public use with correct tags and captions.</li>

Youth Program Assistant

<li>The Strategic Communications and Marketing Assistant will provide administrative and logistical support to the Brand and Public Engagement team. This position will be based at AWF HQ, Nairobi, Kenya. They will report to Manager, Strategic Communications and Marketing.  </li>

 Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Provide administrative support to the Brand and Public Engagement team.</li>
<li>Act as the liaison between the Brand and Public Engagement team and the Administration, Procurement, and Finance teams and ensure the team is compliant with AWF processes and procedures.</li>
<li>Provide general administration support where needed including but not limited to organizing workshops, webinars, seminars, exhibitions, logistics, and other events.</li>
<li>Provide support to the policy team program to create detailed event plans, materials, and post-event reports for project workshops, conferences, and high-level meetings.</li>
<li>Work with the Strategic Communications Manager to support executing communications strategies for the policy program.</li>
<li>Assist the team in the creation of custom media engagement plans, press releases, media reports, and documented media coverage.</li>
