Scope of Internship:

The scope of the internship includes, but is not limited to:

<ul>
	<li>Assisting in conducting legal and policy research and analysis on policies, laws, and decisions that impact sexual health and reproductive rights (SRHR) within the African region as well as global international human rights law and comparative law developments likely to impact SRHR in Africa;</li>
	<li>Supporting the Africa Program’s litigation and advocacy efforts by assisting with, among others, drafting legal petitions, correspondence, briefing papers, internal memorandums, and other advocacy documents and fact-checking sources for reports/cases. Assisting with tracking media  mentions and supporting other aspects of program reporting and communication;</li>
	<li>Assisting in logistics and communications for  program-related events, meetings, seminars, workshops and and reporting on the same. </li>

Requirements

Qualifications:

<ul>
	<li>Recent graduate  with a Bachelor of Laws degree. </li>
	<li>Demonstrable knowledge of international law, international human rights, women’s rights, or other related fields. </li>
	<li>Undergraduate or post-graduate international human rights law coursework will be a significant advantage.</li>

Legal Interns (2 Vacancies)

Primary Responsibilities: 

As an intern with the Africa program, your primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

	<li>Assist with procurement and processing of professional service agreements as needed.</li>
	<li>Assist in preparation, organization, and maintenance of operational and financial documents.</li>
	<li>Support travel arrangements and event logistics, including documentation and coordination.</li>

Intern, Africa Program Operations

Finance Management and Operations 

<ul>
	<li>Support regional financial operations by ensuring that proper internal controls, finance policies, systems, and procedures are being followed.</li>
	<li>Support the Nairobi office annual budget preparation and reprojection process.</li>
	<li>Support the office operations team to track and monitor spending related to the Center’s office budget, reviewing budgeted to actual expenditures monthly to ensure that spending is in line with budget allocations. </li>
</ul>

Expense and Payment Management

<ul>
	<li>Undertake and monitor all payments, ensure smooth, timely issuing of payments and that all financial transactions in the region including of projects, are in line and comply with Centre for Reproductive Right’s policies and within the regional authorization limits. </li>
	<li> Review expense reports, process staff advances, reconciliations, and reimbursements for payable and receivable accounts, following up with applicable parties internally to ensure successful processing.  </li>
	<li>Coordinate timely payments for invoices, bills, payroll, and statutory payments, auditing all transactions for accuracy. </li>
	<li>Post all payments according to the right codes in the center’s finance system.</li>
</ul>

Accounting and Banking

<ul>
	<li>Ensure the accuracy of the organizational accounting records in the various accounting systems and on SharePoint.</li>
	<li>Monitor cash flow and liquidity, identifying and addressing any discrepancies or issues</li>
	<li>Assist in managing the Center’s bank accounts with the support from AD Global Operations.</li>
	<li>On a monthly basis, providing the Head office with documentation in support of incoming transfers and inter account transfers</li>
	<li>Ensure month-end closings and bank reconciliations are timely and accurate and update the computerized accounting software. </li>
</ul>

Payroll Management

<ul>
	<li>Coordinate components of the organization's payroll processes, including reviewing payroll schedules for accuracy, facilitating internal approvals, and maintaining accurate records while ensuring compliance with local laws and tax obligations. </li>
</ul>

Finance Reporting and Compliance

<ul>
	<li>Coordinate the financial reporting process with applicable internal and external parties, ensuring that all deadlines required by local agencies are met.</li>
	<li>Review financial reporting submissions for accuracy and upon completion, record submissions into the Center's books.</li>
	<li>Overall assistance with adherence to local statutory compliance requirements, including vendor tax withholdings, including monthly and annual financial statements and annual tax filings, etc. </li>

Requirements

<ul>
	<li>Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration is required. </li>
	<li>Professional qualification in accounting, CPA(K), ACCA or equivalent is desired.</li>
	<li>A minimum of five years of professional experience in accounting and budgeting with experience working at an International Organization, Non-Governmental Organization, Donor Agency, or Embassy is required. </li>
	<li>Thorough knowledge of professional accounting principles, theory, practices, and terminology regarding accounting and experience developing, managing, and analyzing large and complex operating budgets. </li>

Finance Officer, Africa

Primary Responsibilities:

<ul>
	<li>Oversee the day-to-day activities of the VP’s office including providing the delivery of quality, high-level administrative support specifically regarding meeting preparation/follow-up. S/he will organize the VP’s meetings (both virtual and in-person) and manage the daily schedule of the VP, ensuring that she knows her schedule (appointments and meetings) 24 hours in advance and amendments are done whenever necessary. S/he will also keep the VP well informed about upcoming commitments and responsibilities, following up appropriately and keeping her appraised and updated.</li>
	<li>Manage the VP’s calendar to reflect strategic priorities and help in effective time management and manage an extremely active and dynamic calendar of appointments; coordinate activities, such as conferences, field visits, internally and externally organized workshops and other tasks that facilitate the VP’s ability to lead the Africa Program.</li>
	<li>Assume responsibility for the overall planning, execution, and related logistics for the VP’s travel schedule. The incumbent will organize arrange complex and detailed travel plans, trip planning calls with internal/external stakeholders, develop written, detailed schedules, confirm travel plans and appointments, manage all related transportation and lodging plans, complete expense requests and reports; itineraries, agendas, and compile documents for travel-related meetings.</li>
	<li>Ensure the VP is prepared for all internal and external meetings through oversight and organization of all briefing memos, remarks, and request/prepare agendas in advance; assist with and provide research/background information, content development, and creation of presentations; coordinate meetings and take meeting notes. S/he will also on own initiative process/compose correspondence/reports for the VP and prepare correspondence that is confidential.</li>

	<li>Manage the information flow in and out of the VP’s Office (manage the VP’s inbox and incoming email) and prioritize for attention and drafting responses as appropriate and screen and prioritize communications as appropriate.</li>
	<li>Manage external contacts for the VP, proactively understanding who they are, which are the priority contacts, and keeping track of periodic communication needed for priority contacts.</li>

Executive Assistant, Africa

Primary Responsibilities:

<ul>
	<li>Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Senior Manager of Pro Bono in Africa and the Pro Bono Manager, Europe, including calendar management, meeting logistics, travel coordination, reimbursements, and other day-to-day activities, as assigned.</li>
	<li>Process and review program expenses monthly to ensure grant compliance and transparency.</li>
	<li>Support the Pro Bono Department in accurate end-of-month reporting of activities in Africa and Europe, including via data input and review in Salesforce and the Center’s Project Management software system.</li>
	<li>Coordinate internal and external meetings and presentations; provide technical support for virtual meetings; design, distribute, collect and manage RSVPs; coordination of guest lists with building security and onsite host(s), prepare meeting materials, including PowerPoint presentations, and facilitate event follow-up logistics as appropriate.</li>
	<li>Research external partners, primarily law firms and law societies, to develop geographic mappings, identify targets for outreach, and support the creation and ongoing maintenance of background documents, primarily for Africa and Europe.</li>
	<li>Support external marketing efforts for the Africa and Europe pro bono managers, including ordering branded materials, overseeing the printing of materials, and facilitating gifts to law firms.</li>

Pro Bono Associate

The Development Associate, Institutional Funding reports to the Senior Director of Institutional Funding and works closely with all members of the Institutional Funding Unit. The Associate provides day-to-day support while also managing grants processing, information storage, scheduling support, and other administration work as needed.

This position will be based in Nairobi in a hybrid model of three days working in-office, 2 days working from home.

Primary Responsibilities:

<ul>
	<li>Work closely with the managers of the Institutional Funding Unit to support the opportunity generation and proposal process, including preparing required documentation for a proposal and setting up internal processes/sites for the proposal process and keeping the team on track of deadlines.</li>
	<li>Administrate all grant processing for the Institutional Funding Unit, including working closely with Finance/Accounting and Development operations to ensure grants are tracked in the donor database and Sharepoint, and facilitating contract negotiation and signature.</li>
	<li>Provide administration support across the Institutional Funding team, including helping with scheduling, meeting agenda and notes, logistics support, and other administrative duties as needed.</li>

Development Associate, Institutional Funding

Primary Responsibilities:

<ul>
	<li>Perform financial tracking and reporting activities for the Africa Program.</li>
	<li>On a monthly basis, budgets are conducted for the actual assessment of the Africa program, and forecasts are adjusted as required.</li>
	<li>Perform periodic analysis of partner and personnel advances and vendor/supplier bills; monitor all invoice payments, payroll and related statutory payments, and disbursements to partner organizations; and ensure correct coding on the payment request form and in the financial reporting system.</li>
	<li>In close coordination with the Program Manager-Africa, respective budget holders in the Africa team and the institutional Grants Manager, manage all financial management aspects of sub-grants under the Africa Program, including:</li>
	<li>Coordinating with the Programs team to ensure effective and timely sub-grant assessments, approvals, disbursements, financial reporting, financial monitoring (including spot checks), and audits of all sub-grants (where relevant).</li>
	<li>Ensuring that tools for efficient sub-grant management, monitoring, and reporting are put in place and use and that they are in line with applicable Center and/or donor’s standards.</li>
	<li>Support the program leads in correspondence with program partners regarding finance-related issues pertaining to the funded projects.</li>

Program Finance Officer

Technical support and Norm building:
<ul>
<li>Lead in engagement with the regional and sub-regional human rights mechanisms</li>
<li>Provide technical support to regional human rights mechanisms and support special Mandates &amp; procedures in executing their mandates as necessary.</li>
<li>Support partner capacity strengthening for an increased engagement with Human rights mechanisms.</li>

Implementation

Legal Advocacy Adviser, Africa

Primary Responsibilities: 
HR Generalist
<ul>
<li>Collaborate with the Senior Director of HR to develop the key HR strategy for the Africa and Asia region, supporting its continued growth.</li>
<li>Ensure local employees and consultants are properly onboarded and provided with appropriate training.</li>
<li>Oversee contract renewals for long-term consultants and maintain all required paperwork.</li>

Senior HR Manager, Africa, Asia, and Global Remote

Financial Leadership and Management 
<ul>
<li>Develop and manage the regional budget including regional forecasts and reprojections aligned to the regional strategy and workplans in close coordination with the regional team.</li>
<li>Actively contribute to the development and periodic review of the Africa program workplans and ensuring alignment of the workplan to the regional budget.</li>
<li>Accountable for ensuring and monitoring delivery against the financial plans through targeted financial analytical reviews and forecasting accuracy.</li>
<li>Maximize spending and cost recovery on restricted grants, in line with donor regulations.</li>
<li>Ensure financial and compliance policies and procedures are well understood; accountability is clear, carrying out proper management review of financial expenditure for the Program.</li>
<li>Internal control - ensuring that funds are used as intended. Accountable for control of program assets and liabilities, ensuring costs are accurately charged against awards or budgets.</li>
<li>Provide decision support to the Senior Regional Director for oversight of deployment of financial resources extending to all key activities of the region: grant management, logistics, operations, strategic issues, and financial risks and requirements for program and geographical expansion.</li>
<li>Champion cost effectiveness in general ensuring that the Program is operating efficiently with a sustainable cost base.</li>
<li>Ensure staff in the Program have the right finance skills to carry out their varied budget management roles including planning, monitoring, reviewing, and reporting on Program finances.</li>
<li>Be responsible for regional program financial oversight and risk management including ensuring functional risk tracking and management tools on all aspects of regional program financial management.</li>
<li>Participate in Center-wide cross-organizational teams working to optimize program management, grants reporting and compliance functions.</li>

Program and Grant Support 
<ul>
<li>Review budgeted to actual expenditures monthly to ensure that spending is in line with budget allocations.</li>
<li>Work with the Program Partner Team (constituted of the program finance officer, program manager, compliance staff and the relevant advocacy/litigation staff) to support partner assessment, engagement, reporting, audits, and financial management capacity building.</li>
<li>Partner with the SRD to develop program and proposal budgets and supporting value for money rationales for the Africa Program ensuring that they are in line with the Donors interests.</li>
<li>Take lead on all project and program related audits. Ensuring compliance and follow through on audit related issues.</li>
</ul>

<li>Manage regional program financial staff, defining expectations, providing leadership and technical support as needed, and evaluating direct reports regularly.</li>
<li>Manage the performance of program financial staff in the region through staff development strategies and performance management systems.</li>

​​​​​​​Qualifications
<ul>
<li>A university degree in Finance or Business administration or related field.</li>
<li>10+ years post qualification experience in program financial management including demonstrable experience in handling of multi-country program finance, grants, and compliance requirements.</li>
<li>Familiarity with INGO and NGO sector, financial reporting and accounting practices including program budget development, tracking of program expenditure and donor reporting.</li>
<li>Proven experience in managing large and complex budgets, including sub-granting to partners.</li>
<li>Extensive experience in working with computerized accounting systems, including familiarity with use of scalable Enterprise Resource (ERPs) and other e-based communication channels and tools.</li>
