Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • Served for a minimum period of three (3) years in the grade of Senior Principal Superintending Architect or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service;
  • A Bachelors degree in Architecture or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a university recognized in Kenya;
  • A Masters degree in Architecture or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a university recognized in Kenya;
  • Been Registered by the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors of Kenya;
  • Corporate membership with the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK);
  • Demonstrated a high degree of professional competence and administrative capability required for effective planning, direction, control and coordination of Building development programmes; and
  • A thorough understanding of National goals, policies and programmes and the ability to translate them to the quantity surveying functions.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Deputy Chief Architect will deputize the Chief Architect in the activities of the department comprising architectural maintenance, research forward planning group and surveying both at the headquarters and the field. Duties and responsibilities at this level will include: –

  • Implementing architectural policies, plans and strategies;
  • Assisting in review of legislation related to building construction;
  • Preparation and approval of spatial requirement for government building.
  • Implementing departmental performance contract;
  • Coordinating research on building technologies, methodologies, processes and material and disseminate research findings;
  • Monitoring expenditure on the government building development programme; and
  • Administration of general staff mater for the department.
