Background of the Assignment
World Vision Kenya (WVK) is committed to improving the lives of vulnerable children and communities across the country. The media plays a critical role in raising awareness, advocating for policy changes, and engaging donors and partners. Effective media communication is essential for WVK’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Senior Management Team (SMT) to ensure WVK’s mission, values, and the impact of our work are communicated and understood by key stakeholders, including the media, donors, government partners, and the public.
This training aims to equip SLT and SMT with the necessary skills to effectively communicate with the media and to understand the importance of personal branding in their professional roles. The overall goal is to enhance participants' ability to represent WVK confidently, deliver consistent and impactful messages, and build their brand as effective spokespeople for the organization.
It will cover everything from message development and media interview techniques to crisis communication, relationship-building with journalists, and personal branding. Whether responding to a crisis, advocating for change, sharing success stories, or representing the organization’s values, our leadership team must be able to deliver clear, concise, and impactful messages that align with WVK’s goals and resonate with diverse audiences. This training will also focus on strengthening personal branding and helping leaders build and maintain a professional image that complements their role as spokespersons for the organization.
Objectives of the Media Training
The main goal of this media training session is to equip WVK’s SMT and SLT with the essential skills and knowledge required to effectively communicate with the media and personal branding.
Specific Objectives include;
To gain an understanding of the local and international media landscapes and the role media plays in shaping WVK’s public image and influencing public opinion. To learn best practices for engaging with the media, including how to answer tough questions, manage interviews, and control the narrative. To learn strategies for responding to media in a crisis, including how to stay calm, respond strategically, and protect the organization’s reputation. To understand the importance of personal branding for senior leaders, especially in media interactions, strategies to build and maintain a strong personal brand that aligns with WVK’s values and enhances credibility in public engagements. To Identify key opportunities where media engagements can support WVK’s mission and advocacy work and understand how to leverage media relationships to advance WVK's objectives and initiatives.
Scope of Work
Number of Days: 1.5 Days- 29th and 30th April, 2025
Location: World Vision Kenya Offices, Karen Road.
The training will focus on media interaction techniques, crisis communication, personal branding, and message structuring. It will be a One and a half day training program, divided into two sections: Media Engagement in the morning session and Personal Branding in the afternoon session.

Key Deliverables
Pre-Training Deliverables
Deliver a brief questionnaire or interview with the participants to assess their current media engagement skills and expectations from the training a week before the training, for pre-needs assessment. This will help tailor the content to the specific needs and challenges faced by the SLT and SMT members. Deliver a detailed agenda and training materials for the one-day training, broken down into time slots for each topic. The agenda should include all key activities and training materials (PowerPoint presentations, handouts, worksheets, etc.) should also be prepared in advance.
