Role Purpose

The IT and AI Systems Intern will support the organization’s digital and technology initiatives by contributing to AI model testing, data workflows, IoT system maintenance, and general IT support. The role is designed to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen internal systems, and ensure seamless support to core teams.

Role Title: IT and AI Systems Intern

Location: Kenya, Nairobi

Reports to: IT Lead and Project Lead

Key Responsibilities:

Support AI systems, including data preparation, model testing, and LLM/RAG-related workflows. Assist in maintaining IoT systems, including devices, sensors, and data flow monitoring. Contribute to the development and maintenance of dashboards and internal digital tools. Provide day-to-day IT support, including device setup, user access management, and troubleshooting. Document systems, processes, and workflows to support knowledge sharing and continuity. Support API development and integrations for selected platforms and projects (e.g., Planful, Crisis Management System). Assist in monitoring system performance and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Academic Qualifications

Recent graduate (within the last 1–2 years) with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Technical Skills & Exposure

Basic understanding of AI/ML concepts, including data preparation and model testing. Exposure to Large Language Models (LLMs) and/or Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) is desirable. Familiarity with Python or similar programming languages used in data and AI workflows. Basic knowledge of APIs, system integrations, and working with tools/platforms. Understanding of IoT systems (devices, sensors, data flows) is an added advantage. Experience or exposure to dashboarding tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is beneficial. General IT knowledge: device setup, troubleshooting, user support, and system maintenance.
