Introduction

Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH, N) is a private not-for-profit teaching hospital that provides tertiary and secondary level healthcare services. It is one of the hospitals in East Africa accredited by the Joint Commission International from USA. The University Hospital has been providing high quality care for the people of East Africa and beyond for over 60 years.

The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi Outreach Division is a rapidly growing network of 54 medical centers spread over East Africa. These medical centers feature three to five consulting rooms with a practice that is home to qualified medical officers, highly-experienced nurses and constant reception cover. The clinics offer an on-site pharmacy and laboratory as well as radiology and sonography services. There is high expectation for staff to provide high quality professional services.

Applications are invited from qualified candidates for the above position based in Nairobi Kenya.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct hospital ward rounds to identify patients eligible for Homecare enrollment.
  • Apply defined eligibility and acuity criteria for safe transition.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary discharge planning.
  • Provide clinical oversight for enrolled patients.
  • Review patient charts to ensure documentation quality.
  • Enforce Medical Staff By-Laws and institutional policies.
  • Participate in orientation, training, and appraisals of Locum doctors
  • Provide clinical supervision, to Locum medical Officers.
  • Ensure compliance of locum doctors with scope of practice and approved competencies.
  • Conduct scheduled and urgent home visits.
  • Assess and manage acute and chronic illnesses in the home setting.
  • Review high-risk patients (PEG feeding, oxygen dependency, anticoagulation).
  • Provide patient and caregiver education.
  • Ensure complete and accurate chart documentation.
  • Lead and participate in Morbidity &Mortality reviews.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analyses.
  • Conduct chart audits and provide structured feedback.
  • Participate in DQIPs and CQIPs.
  • Champion patient safety initiatives.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB)
  • Registration and licensure by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
  • At least 2 years post internship experience in a busy hospital or outpatient set-up
