The Hospital is seeking to attract interested and qualified candidates to fill the following positions within the Nursing Department:

OPHTHALMIC CARE NURSE- MAIN HOSPITAL, KISUMU (LOCUM)


The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients with a wide range of ocular conditions, support ophthalmic procedures, and contribute to patient education and safety in both outpatient and perioperative settings.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide specialized nursing care to patients with eye conditions in clinic and procedural areas
  • Assist ophthalmologists during diagnostic and minor surgical procedures (e.g., slit lamp exams, visual field tests, intravitreal injections)
  • Prepare patients for ophthalmic procedures, including pre- and post-operative care
  • Conduct and document visual acuity assessments and basic eye examinations
  • Administer ophthalmic medications and monitor patient response
  • Educate patients and families on eye care, treatment plans, and medication use
  • Maintain infection prevention and control standards in all procedures.
  • Ensure proper handling and maintenance of ophthalmic equipment.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) activities.
  • Assist ophthalmologists during eye examinations and surgical procedures

REQUIREMENTS

  • Diploma in KRN, KRCHN, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from a recognized institution.
  • Higher Diploma in Ophthalmic Care Nursing or any other certification in Ophthalmic Nursing Care will be an advantage.
  • Valid Nursing practice license
  • At least 3 years acute care hospital working experience.
  • Minimum 1-year clinical experience eye care clinic.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, administrative & customer care skills.
